Recently, it was announced on 22/04/2020 that the rules for signing and witnessing were changed in lieu of the Corona virus. Video conferencing technology like Skype Whatsapp, FaceTime and Zoom can be used in the witnessing of important legal documents like wills, POA & statutory declarations. This was done to minimise the need for face to face meetings. This new change has been authorised under section 17 of the Electronic Transaction Act and signed in accordance with clause 2 of schedule 1 of the Electronic Transaction Regulations 2017.
This thankfully benefits our clients as they will now no longer need to drive to one of our two branches to have a document witnessed.
